Producer Council submits a plea to Central government for GST
Jun 30, 2017 JBThe Tamil Nadu Producer Council headed by Vishal had been expressing their opinion on the new GST structure as the entertainment industry would come under the 28% tax bracket. They have also submitted their pleas earlier to both central and state governments.
But it appears like the government is not going to change their stance on the tax structure for the cinema industry and from tomorrow, the 1st of July, new GST will be implemented.
However, not the one to be cowed down, the Producer Council would be submitting their plea again. A press note reads, “We want the films in regional languages to be exempted from GST completely when non-regional movies could be taxed at a lower rate. However, foreign language films can be taxed at a higher GST than the non-regional films. We also said that the new GST would affect the industries which have lakhs of skilled laborers in it. We have also highlighted the problems faced by them and have suggested a solution in the representation. We hope the government hears our plea and intervenes soon".
