Rajinikanth cancels his Srilanka trip after politicians stop him

Mar 27, 2017 JB

Superstar Rajinikanth was supposed to go to Srilanka and inaugurate an event that would give houses to Tamilians in Jaffna as a part of Gnanam Foundation of Lyca Productions. The event was supposed to be held on the 8th of April. But TN politicians such as Thol Thirumavalavan and Vai Gopalasamy requested Superstar not to go to Srilanka as they claimed that Lyca Productions Subash Karan has a tie up with former Srilankan President Rajapakse.

Heeding to the politician’s demand Rajinikanth has cancelled his trip which he has announced through a press note which is as follows: “I was to go to Sri Lanka, for the house opening ceremony, and apart from that I had also planned to meet the Sri Lankan President, Mr. Maithripala Sirisena, and talk to him about the inhumane killings of Tamil Nadu fishermen.

However, Mr. Thol Thirumavalavan, Mr. Vaiko and Mr.Velmurugan, through various means, requested me not to go there and attend the function, based on a few political reasons. Though their reasons weren't convincing, I accept their humble request and decided not to attend the function in Sri Lanka.

I again want to remind, that I am an actor and not a politician. My main job is to make people happy and entertain through my films. In the future, if I get a chance to visit Sri Lanka for meeting our people, I request you all, not to make politics out of it and stop me again from visiting the country. Jai Hind"
