Rajkummar Rao's Newton is all set for Oscars 2018

Rajkummar Rao’s recently released coming of age satire – ‘Newton’ has already made its mark at various international film festivals and receiving rave reviews from critic and audience alike back home.


And now, as soon as it hits the Indian screens, we have learnt that this political satire, directed by Amit V Masurkar is named as India’s official entry to the Oscars 2018.


The Film Federation of India have chosen to send Newton to the Oscars for the Best Foreign Film language category. The head of selection committee, Telugu producer CV Reddy was quoted saying, “Newton was chosen unanimously by the committee out of 26 entries. Everyone in the committee liked it.”


Rajkummar took to his social networking site to share the big news and congratulated the entire team of ‘Newton’. He wrote, “It’s amazing! ‘Newton’ is such a unique and a special film for all of us. It’s a film which has been made with so much purity and honesty, without keeping any commercial aspects in mind. It’s a simple, honest story and it’s resonating with everyone. The response that we have been getting from the critics also is huge. I really hope this translates on to the box office as well. Now, more number of people would be interested in watching Newton!”


Aanand L Rai of Colour Yellow Productions informs, “Good films need to reach the audience. Period. We as a production company are lucky to be in a place that we can be instrumental in this process. Over the years people have found connect with Colour Yellow Productions and good storytelling and we don't want to let go of any opportunity that we get in this regard. Newton is an important film and we will call it an investment not a punt. We really believe the film it's getting what is deserves and hope it soars more heights.”


Along with ‘Newton’, Aamir Khan's ‘Dangal’ and SS Rajamouli's ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ were also participating for the selection.


Now Newton will compete with movies like Angelina Jolie's ‘First They Killed My Father’ from Cambodia, Robin Campillo’s ‘BPM: Beats Per Minute from France at the 90th Academy Awards that will take place on March 4, 2018.
