It was recently reported that Kabir Khan is all set to make a film that documents India’s legendary World Cup win in the year 1983 at Lords Stadium. While the initial reports stated that the director had roped in Arjun Kapoor to portray the then captain of Indian cricket team, Kapil Dev. Now, it is confirmed that ‘Padmavati’ actor, Ranveer Singh, has been finalised for the role.

Speaking about it, Kabir said to a leading daily, “I had no idea then that from that day on cricket in India would change forever. As a filmmaker, the journey to that win, filled with the raw energy and sheer passion of a young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. It's great to have Ranveer come on board as Kapil Dev, as honestly I could see no one else in the role since I started working on the script.”

As of now, it is said that the film will be tentatively titled as ‘World Cup 1983’ and will be produced by Phantom Films and Vishnu Vardhan Induri, who is the founder and managing director of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). Rumour has it that the film will be written by National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan.

It is likely to go on floors early next year and will be shot at the locations where the whole 1983 Prudential Cup tour took place. We are really looking forward to see this chapter from Indian cricket history come alive once again on the big screen.
