Scenarist Balram Mattannoor dies aged 62

Scriptwriter and author Balram Mattannoor, who rose to fame in the film industry with Suresh Gopi-starrer ‘Kaliyattom’, died on Thursday. He was 62. Balram had been undergoing treatment for his prolonged illness.

‘Kaliyattom’ had fetched the National Award for the Best Actor to Suresh Gopi. Apart from Jayaraj-directed ‘Kaliyattom’, Balram has written screenplays for films such as ‘Karmayogi,’ ‘Samavakyam’, ‘Anyalokam’ and ‘Pithavinum Puthranum Parisudha Adhmavinum’.

His oeuvres include novels, children’s books and memoirs. Balram is survived by wife K N Soumya and daughter Gayathri.
