SICA goes to polls in January 2016
Dec 14, 2015 JBAfter the widely battled Nadigar Sangam elections, one more election is coming and this time around it will be South India Cinematographer’s Association. It is reported that this is being held after almost a decade.
Disclosing this to the media, cinematographer Kannan B, one of the contestants from cinematographer P C Sreeram’s team, said, “No elections have been held at SICA for the last eight years. So, the association has been functioning without a proper administrative. We wanted to regulate the situation at SICA and therefore, went to court seeking its intervention. The court has announced 10 January 2016 as the date for conducting elections and has also appointed an officer, Govindaraj, to supervise it.”
There are three teams contesting for the various positions at the association. One team is led by G Siva and another by Y N Murali, Kanniappan and Raghunath Reddy. The third team, which calls itself the SICA Neutral team, is led by cinematographer P C Sreeram. Ideally, elections should have been held at least once in two years, especially considering that the association has around 1,200 members, and of these, 912 have voting rights.
