Veteran director K Balachander recently passed away due to age related issues at a Chennai hospital. The legend’s contribution to Tamil cinema and television is phenomenal and he has left behind a deep void. He was instrumental in introducing several actors, including Rajinikanth, Prakash Raj, Sujatha, Saritha, Vivek and many more.

The members of the Tamil Nadu Thirai Iyakkunar Sangam (TANTIS) have urged Tamil Nadu government to erect a statue in memory of legendary filmmaker K. Balachander. They have also urged the Tamil Nadu government to name a street in Mylapore, after him.

“Balachander sir deserves to be remembered for many generations. We were moved to see how many people showed up at his funeral. It shows the kind of impact he had left on the people with his films. We thought we could build and unveil a statue in his memory,” R.K Selvamani, a member of TANTIS reiterated.
