Annakodi in trouble

Jun 28, 2013 SV

A petition has been filed in the Madurai bench of Madras High Court, requesting for a ban on the release of Bharathiraja’s upcoming movie Annakodi. The film is scheduled to release today, on June 28.

AK Ragupathy, president of Thevar Pasarai Iyakkam has filed the petition. The petitioner has said that as the film is a love story between a Thevar girl and Dalit boy, it might create communal violence among the different sections of the society.

The petitioner has alleged that the content of the film is against section 5B of the cinematographic Act, 1952. But, the Central Board of Film Certification certified the film with a UA certificate and granted permission for its screening, he alleged.

Raghupathy has requested for a ban on the film in the sensitive areas, especially south Tamil Nadu. When the petition came for hearing, the Judge asked the petitioners’ lawyer as to whether he has seen the film or not. As he said ‘No’ the judge said the petitioner cannot assume that the movie will disturb communal balance. The matter has been posted to today on the date of the film’s release.

Bharathiraja has written and directed Annakodi. The film stars Lakshman Narayan, Karthika and Manoj Bharathiraja in the lead. GV Prakash has scored the music for the movie. The film was earlier titled Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum.
