Kollywood goes on a fast

Protesting against the central government’s service tax, Tamil film fraternity is observing a token fast today. Superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are also expected to participate in the fast among others.

Members of different organisations related to Tamil cinema will participate in the one day token fast which is being held near Valluvar Kottam, Nungambakkam.

They are protesting the12.36 per cent service tax on the various crafts. No shooting will be held today and the members of the television artistes and producers are also participating in the protest.

Members of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC), the Federation of Film Employees’ Federation of South India (FEFSI) and the South Indian Film Chamber Of Commerce and the associations for television artists will participate in the fast. Radhika Sarathkumar, president of The Tamil Nadu Television Producers Council has requested all the members of the council, television artistes and technicians to participate in the fast. There will not be any shooting of the television serials or shows today. Theatres have also cancelled their day time shows today.
