Superstar Krishna retires

Superstar Krishna has announced his retirement from acting and politics. The 70-year-old actor has cited age and health as the reason for his decision. He has acted in more than 350 films in a career spanning 50 years. He ruled the Telugu cinema industry in the mid-seventies and eighties.


Krishna is not only a superstar, but is also a successful director and he has directed 17 movies. He was also a producer. He debuted as the hero in Tene Manasulu (1965), the first colour social movie in Telugu.


He has introduced several firsts in Telugu- first cinema-scope movie (Alluri Seetharama Raju), first 70 mm movie (Simhasanam), James Bond kind of movies to Telugu with Gudachari 116 (1966) and cowboy movies with Mosagallaku Mosagadu (1971).


He also has the record of acting with same actress for more than 50 films. He has acted with his second wife, Vijayanirmala in more than 50 films and with Jayaprada, he has acted in about 47 films.


He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2009. Popular actor Mahesh Babu, is his son.
