It’s not unusual that the titles of successful films are added to the real names of its producers, actors or directors. One such film is Mohanlal starrer ‘Kireedam’, directed by Sibi Malayil.

The 1989 film, which is one of the best films in Malayalam Cinema’s history, was shot in Thiruvananthapuram. It’s mostly remembered for the stupendous performances of Mohanlal and Thilakan.

A bridge located at Vellayani river was one of the locations of the movie, which had screenplay by Lohithadas. Cinematographer S. Kumar had beautifully captured the visuals of the bridge over the canal adjacent to a vast field.

The aerial shot that shows Mohanlal slowly walking away from the bridge through the small road bisecting the fields is a camera man’s signature scene that highlights the impact of the location on the movie.

After the success of the film, the bridge was called as ‘Kireedam Palam’ (‘Kireedam’ Bridge) by the locals. Recently, the bridge was officially named after ‘Kireedam Palam’ by the authorities.

Incidentally, one of the producers of the film, N. Krishnakumar (Unni) is also known as ‘Kireedom’ Unni in the industry. Click the Movie button below for more info:
