There will not be new releases from October 6th
Oct 4, 2017 JBThe state government had announced a 10% state entertainment tax on 27th September 2017 which is expected to have serious repercussions on the industry. Reacting to this the Tamil Nadu Film Producer Council had announced a strike from this Friday, the 6th October.
In a statement issued, it read, “Tamil Film Producers are already facing loss in the trade due to various issues like piracy and GST. At this crucial juncture, it is further shocking to hear the announcement of 10% Entertainment Tax made by Tamilnadu Government on 27th September 2017.
We had already explained the trade situation and have given a clear picture of the business through various petitions in our meetings with the State Government officials. But now, the government has come up with this taxation law, instead of sorting out the ticket price hike issue. This has given us huge business loss and creates confusion internally.
So, we at TFPC met today with all producers and have come to a decision wholeheartedly. Tamilnadu Producers Council has now decided that there won't be new movie releases from October 6th, until the government sorts out the ticket hike issue and waives of the Entertainment Tax completely."
