Piracy is an important issue that is plaguing the film world. It appears that Kollywood has made a breakthrough in this by helping the police nab a person named Gowrishankar who was involved in it.

Gowrishankar is a 29-year-old engineer who was detained by the City police on charges of running a torrent website tamligun.in, in which pirated versions of newly released Tamil movies were uploaded online. He is a native of Tirupathur in Vellore district and is one of the administrators of the torrent site tamilgun.in.

On Monday, Gowrishankar was lured by members of the anti piracy cell of the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council (TPF-C), who had tracked him down and set up a meeting with him. Police sources stated, "The producers council members claimed that they had original CDs of new releases which would help him write them into empty CDs and decided on a meeting spot in Triplicane". Gowrishankar was handed over to the Triplicane police who are conducting investigations. The case is likely to be transferred to the Video Piracy cell of the Central Crime Branch.
