Visaaranai bows out of the Oscar race

Visaaranai directed by Vetri Maaran was a well made film on police brutalities which featured Dinesh, Samuthirakani, Ramadoss, Kayal Anandhi and others. Ramalingam was the DoP. The film was produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films.


Visaaranai was premiered in the Orrizonti (Horizons) section of the 72nd Venice Film Festival where it won the Amnesty International Italia Award. At the 63rd National Film Awards, the film won three honours: Best Feature Film in Tamil, Best Supporting Actor for Samuthirakani and Best Editing forKishore Te.


It was the only Indian film that was chosen to represent India at the 89th Oscars competing for the Best Foreign Language film category. Sadly so, the film has not been shortlisted as stated by Vetri Maaran through a tweet this morning. Later, producer Dhanush also tweeted saying, “We r happy 2 ve represented India at d Oscars this year.V had a great campaign,learnt a lot.Thanks 2 all who wished us well. #wunderbarfilms” Click the Movie button below for more info:
