Waheeda Rehman to be conferred with Phalke honour

Actress and dancer Waheeda Rehman will be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for her immense contribution to Indian Cinema.

Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, made the announcement on Tuesday through his social media page. He wrote, “I feel an immense sense of happiness and honour in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is being bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema.”

Waheeda is known for films like ‘Guide’, ‘Pyaasa’, ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam’, ‘Delhi-6’, ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’ and several others. She made her acting debut with the Telugu film ‘Rojulu Marayi’ (1955). The actress was conferred with Padma Shri in 1972 and Padma Bhushan in 2011.

Born at Chengalpettu on the outskirts of Chennai city in 1938, she has acted in more than 90 films. With a career spanning almost seven decades, the veteran actress has played countless memorable characters on the celluloid.
