Amala Paul harassed by an industrialist

Amala Paul had lodged a complaint with the Mambalam (Chennai) police that she was being harassed by an industrialist from Kottivakkam. The Mambalam police acted upon the actress’s complaint and arrested a 40-year-old Alagesan.

Amala Paul said she was taking part in a dance rehearsal in a studio in T. Nagar for an event to be held in Malaysia to promote women’s empowerment. While she was practicing, a stranger approached her and made an inappropriate remark. “I was shocked and humiliated. I am an independent working woman. It looked as if he was acting on behalf of someone at the place. I felt extremely unsafe”.

Following her complaint, the police booked a case against Alagesan, 40, of Kottivakkam under Sections 354A (Sexual harassment), 509 (Uttering any word or making any gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
