Bella Swan named favourite on-screen mother

Los Angeles, March 9 (IANS) Actress Kristen Stewart's "Twilight" character Bella Swan has been named Britain's favourite movie mother in a new poll.


The character, essayed by the 22-year-old, has topped an Empire Cinemas poll of the nation's favourite cinematic mothers ahead of Mother's Day Sunday, reports contactmusic.com.


Bella and her vampire lover Edward Cullen, played by actor Robert Pattinson, welcomed daughter Renesmee in the final instalment of the supernatural franchise, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II". The character struck a chord with movie fans, earning 89 percent of the votes.


Meanwhile, beloved animated character Marge Simpson was voted Funniest Movie mother in the poll.


Actress Meryl Streep's character Donna in "Mamma Mia!" took the third place, while John Travolta's cross-dressing role as Edna Turnblad in "Hairspray" was on fourth position.
