Los Angeles: "Game Of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin thinks sci-fi western series "Westworld" will take away awards from the fantasy series at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

"Game of Thrones" and "Westworld" have been nominated in the Best Television Series - Drama category for the 2017 Golden Globes. Other contenders are "The Crown", "Stranger Things" and "This Is Us".

Martin, who wrote the book series on which the show is based on, gave the Golden Globes prediction in a recent blog post, reports ew.com.

He wrote: "Being an HBO guy, I'm thrilled that to see that both 'Game of Thrones' and 'Westworld' have been nominated for the big prize. Though 'Westworld' is going to be some tough competition. (In fact, I would figure WW for the favourite).

"And as a science fiction and fantasy geek, I am also delighted to see that 'Stranger Things' made the list. Three out of five finalists being genre shows... And during this golden age of television... is another sign of just how far we've come."

Both dramas also have actors up for awards, with Lena Headey nominated for "Game Of Thrones" and Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton up for "Westworld", which will air in India from on December 31 and January 1 on Star World Premiere HD.

The 74th annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, will be held on January 8 next year.
