Gethu denied tax rebate

Jan 17, 2016 JB

The Udhayanidhi Stalin starrer and production venture Gethu recently hit the screens on the 14th of January. The film has been given a clean U by the Censor authorities. In Tamil Nadu, for Tamil films to enjoy an entertainment tax waiver, the title has to be in Tamil and also the film should not go against Tamil values and traditions.

Although having satisfied these two conditions, Gethu has not been given a tax waiver. Udhay attaches a copy of the Censor board members like AL Raghavan, Vani Jayaram, MN Rajam and Shankar Ganesh’s justification on this. According to this, although the film is a neat one, does not have double meaning dialogues or content that is derogatory to women or vulgarity or violence, since the title is not in Tamil, the film cannot be given a tax rebate.

Visibly irked by this Udhay again through his twitter page has given proof from a Tamil dictionary that Gethu is in fact a Tamil word which means cleverness or Thanthiram. He is also planning to appeal against this. Click the Movie button below for more info:
