Thamizh Padam 2 is a rollicking spoof that tickles your funny nerves. Had it been a bit crisper with spoofs that leaned more on Kollywood's stereotypes and cliches without looking to target a particular movie or celebrity, it could have been a smashing joyride! Still, this ride is worth your time!!

A spoof is one genre that ought to be delicately handled. When overcooked or undercooked not only does it rub the wrong shoulders but would fall apart like a pack of cards with the slightest of jerks! Surprisingly, Kollywood and its audience embraced this genre with aplomb through "Thamizh Padam" that released in 2010 with Shiva at the helm of things.

Following the success, director CS Amudhan after slogging it out for 8 years with some delayed ventures has finally come up with the second edition of his 2008 spoof, Thamizh Padam 2, once again with Shiva. And, to announce its arrival, among the various catchy posters mocking so many blockbusters of the past, the crowning glory was when Shiva was offered the title "Agila Ulaga Superstar" during the credits!!

I would hate myself to ponder into the story for such movies. But, there was a method to the madness and Thamizh Padam 2 indeed had a story that went into extravagant territories. Shiva ('Mirchi' Shiva), a cop has to curtail and fight with 'P' (Satheesh), the villain. Well, after a point I lost count of the movies that were pulled in as 'spoof victims' into this melee. Even movies like 2.0 and "Vada Chennai" that are yet to see the light of the day weren't spared. The generic introduction song for Shiva was the funniest one where most of the top stars of Kollywood were thrashed with quirk laced lyrics.

Then there were these funny makeovers for Satheesh for no good reason that brought the house down more often than not. There were so many meta-movie elements like the item song, where Kasturi blatantly walks in with a revealing outfit and dances at a police station when Shiva and company are busy with their "investigations".

The flashback towards the end, though a bit stretched, had the funniest 'dance contest' in Kollywood history. Also, a dig at 'Game of Thrones' was another tickle for the funny nerves. Among the potpourri of spoofs, the politically relevant ones that took some mighty digs at the state and central governments garnered the maximum applause!

The movie could have avoided unwanted duets in the first half. Thankfully in the second half, a spoof was made for another duet that threatened to lag the proceedings. Also, this movie would suit the ones who have watched a good number of Tamil movies in the past. Only then one could enjoy the wry essence of wit laced in so many scenes. For e.g. the "Remo" spoof didn't have much of an impact for me as I haven't watched the movie as yet!

Shiva, the superstar was awesome and it's difficult to point out any other actor who could pull this off currently. His innate sense of humour with an equally witty dialogue delivery was at play. Chethan and Satheesh kept pace with him in suitable supporting roles.

Thamizh Padam 2 is a rollicking spoof that tickles your funny nerves. Had it been a bit crisper with spoofs that leaned more on Kollywood's stereotypes and cliches without looking to target a particular movie or celebrity, it could have been a smashing joyride!
