Oronnonnara Pranaya Kadha Malayalam Movie

Feature Film | 2019 | UA | Drama, Romantic | 2h 11min
Critics:
Two lovers belong to different religions elope to a city fearing communal violence. This cliched plot of 'Oronnonnara Pranayakadha' digresses to absurdity at one stage as the plot crumples in a nonsensical mode. There is no trace of intensity and seriousness in handling this tale and the dismal feel rightly creeps in.

Intense romance gets a raw deal in writer-director Shibu Balan's second film 'Oronnonnara Pranayakadha'. It's colourful in places where it should be albeit it is devoid of liveliness, genuine fun and essence of love. The director employs a clumsy attempt in his storytelling manner so that the romantic milieu becomes parched and highly flawed.

'Oronnonnara Pranayakadha' opens with establishing the affection and sympathy of schoolboy Ramanan, played by Shebin Benson, towards Amina (Rachel David). It grows from infatuation to sincere love for her in his college days. But the introvert boy struggles to muster up the courage to reveal his love for smart Amina. Ramanan's close companion Basheer (Indian Pallassery) advises him in taking decisive steps. Basheer instructs him in matters ranging from learning music to teaching how to approach Amina.

Both of them run a music troupe at Panthrandathaani junction and they invite Amina to sing in their programmes. Hailing from a rich family, Amina never hesitates to join them. Still Ramanan, son of retired army man Parameswaran Nair (Alencier), fails to express his love. Through a trite portrayal, Shibu's script also discusses communal violence in 'Oronnonnara Pranayakadha'.

Unexpectedly, Ramanan's love gets reciprocated one day and they elope to Chennai. The second half delineates their life and struggles in a metro city. A perfect package for a run-of-the-mill love tale, your predictions prove to be on target most of the time. Every scene points to lack of intensity and tedious dramatic moments. With his appealing frames in some parts in the second half, Sameer Haq grabs the attention.

The lovers, who belong to different religions, elope to Chennai fearing communal violence. This cliched plot of 'Oronnonnara Pranayakadha' digresses to absurdity at one stage as the plot crumples in a nonsensical mode. One might feel that the silver lining is in the offing in the latter half but it fades away abruptly. There are some comedic extravagances that don't work well especially the scenes in the college. The story is altogether forced, unimaginative and contrived to say the least.

Shebin is in a comfort zone as far as his character is concerned while Rachel flounders in most parts to find the right rhythm in conveying the expressions. Sudheer Karamana, who plays Amina's grandfather, offers a mediocre performance.
