Hriday Shetty excited over 'Pyar Mein Twist'

Mumbai, Sep 2 (IANS) Director Hriday Shetty is excited over his latest release "Pyar Mein Twist" that features old timers Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia in a romance.

"Rishi and Dimple have come together in only three films in 33 years - 'Bobby', then 'Sagar' and now my film. They are the only couple in the world to have played the romantic lead in every film that they've done together," says Shetty.

He says he had no trouble directing the pair in the film that released Friday.

"They're so energetic, so full of life that they energised the entire team. 'Pyar Mein Twist' would've been impossible without Rishi and Dimple," Shetty told IANS.

Sammir Dattani and Soha Ali Khan also feature in the film that Shetty claims isn't your average run-of-the-Mills and Boon love story.

"It's about two people rediscovering the pleasures of love and togetherness in old age... and please don't compare it with Basu Chatterjee's 'Khatta Meetha' (though Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu-da are filmmakers I idolize). 'Khatta Meetha' had Ashok Kumar and Pearl Padamsee getting married for the convenience of their respective children. In my film Rishi Kapoor and Dimple come together for only one reason - love."

Shetty is naturally nervous about audiences' reaction to a love story about a 50-plus couple.

"But why not?" he protests. "Why must love only be linked to the very young? Why are father and grandfather expected to take the kids to school and watch saas-bahu (mother-in-law-daughter-in-law) soaps on TV? Why can't they have the right to fall in love? That's what Rishi and Dimple do in 'Pyar Mein Twist'."

He's also full of praise for his other romantic lead Sammir Dattani.

"He plays a very important part in 'Pyar Mein Twist'. He's the one who encourages and goads his mother-in-law Dimple to remarry when others frown at the very idea.

"I'd say Sammir is, in one word, brilliant. His potential is yet to be realised. I think my film will reveal what a good actor we have in this newcomer."

Whether it's the way Rishi and Dimple are made to dance to an old Rishi-Neetu number "Khullam Khulla Pyar", or the way his film brings a twist to the conventional pyar in Hindi films, this director is all set to prove a point.

"'Pyar Mein Twist' isn't inspired by any other film. When I made my first film 'Plan' I was associated with Sanjay Gupta who makes a certain kind of rugged slick cinema. 'Pyar Mein Twist' shows my versatility. I want to always direct films that would take me from genre to genre."

Hriday Shetty comes from a filmy family.

"And, boy, am I proud of it! My father was a stunt actor and a stunt director. My brother Rohit made 'Zameen' with Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay Devgan and has just completed 'Gol Maal' with Ajay again. And me? I've done 'Plan' for Sanjay Gupta. And now I've done one that comes straight from the heart."
