I have no faith in star power: Rajiv Babbar

New Delhi, Oct 3 (IANS) Producer-director Rajiv Babbar did not want any big stars in his "Kasak - The Other Side Of A Relationship", as he believes it is the script and not stars that make a film click.

"I don't believe in star power - for me script is the hero. Look at 'Mangal Pandey', even its mega stars could not save it from a box office debacle," Babbar told IANS.

"Stars are there to portray the character but if the characterisation is not up to the mark then even big names can't help."

He said that in spite of negative reviews, he has full faith in his movie, which he hoped would be a hit on the long run.

"I know the power of my script. It narrates the life of a common man and hence is going to touch hearts. My film is a romantic thriller with two extremes - sacrifice and passion," said the director who draws his inspiration from Yash Chopra and Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

He said it took him a year to prepare the script of "Kasak".

Talking about his choice of stars, Lucky Ali and Meera as the lead pair, Babbar said: "I have high respect for both of my lead characters and there is no doubt about their capabilities."

"I prepared the script with Lucky in mind and he has done justice to the character. I think Meera has also done her role according to the demands of the script."

Speaking about his disappearance from the film world for about six years after the release of "Yamraj" starring Mithun Chakraborty, Babbar said the gap was due to "some personal problem".
