Gervais calls England a nation of losers

London, Jan 3 (IANS) British comic Ricky Gervais has called England a nation of losers and believes Americans are more confident.

According to thesun.co.uk, Gervais in an interview was asked why British actors often played misfit characters. He replied: "I think we play the loser well because England's full of them. We celebrate our losers, we celebrate our underdogs. We build them up and then we don't like them anymore - whereas Americans celebrate success."

The 47-year-old added: "Americans are brought up to believe they can be the next president of the US. British people are told, 'It won't happen to you'. It sounds like a generalisation, but it's true."

Gervais starred in hit TV shows "The Office" and "Extras". He was being interviewed by CNN as he promoted his movie "Ghost Town".
