'Anna Thangi' tops even after 100 days

Mar 9, 2006 R.G. Vijayasarathy

Bangalore, March 10 (IANS) "Anna Thangi", which has completed 100 days in 16 centres and is now heading for its silver jubilee, leads the fortnight's movie list.

The top five Kannada films are:

1. "Anna Thangi" - The film's collection has surpassed those of "Jogi" in many centres. Director Sai Prakash's film is expected to do the business of more than Rs.100 million. A shot in the arm for actor Shivaraj Kumar.

2. "My Autograph" - Actor-cum-director Sudeep's career has taken a big leap forward after the release of the film. Trade pundits predicted that the remake of Cheran-directed Tamil film "Autograph" would not suit Sudeep's action image. But he has proved them wrong and viewers are flocking to the theatres.

The film is a big hit in the old Mysore area. But the collections are not up to the mark in parts of the rest of Karnataka.

3. "Suntaragaali" - Like any other Darshan-starrer, "Suntaragaali" too had a huge opening but it received an uneven response from his fans. It may end up as a break-even film for the producer, but a losing proposition for some district-level distributors.

4. "Rama Shama Bhama" - The film will soon reach the 100-day milestone in Bangalore. The collections have been good in the interior areas too. The Rs.25-million film is expected to do business of more than Rs.40 million. Actor Ramesh has established himself as a successful director and he has also helped Kamal Haasan to make an impressive comeback in Kannada films.

5. "Amruthadhare" - The silver-jubilee run of the film in Bangalore says it all. The film is doing well in all city centres, particularly in the old Mysore area, and even in the interior areas, contrary to expectations in trade circles that the 'elitist' film would succeed only in A centres.
