Kochi, Nov 15 (IANS) "Chakkaramuthu", "Classmates" and "Pothen Vava" are ruling the music charts this fortnight.

The top five Malayalam songs are:

1. "Karineela kannilenthedee" - Film: "Chakkaramuthu"; Music: M. Jayachandran; Lyrics: Gireesh Puthencherry; Singers: Vineeth Sreenivasan and Sujatha. Jayachandran, who is known as a melody-maker, returns to the list with this distinctive melodious number.

2. "Ente khalbile" - Film: "Classmates"; Music: Alex Paul; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Sujatha and Vineeth Sreenivasan. After deservedly staying on top for months, this song climbs down to the second slot.

3. "Vave makane" - Film: "Pothen Vava"; Music: Alex Paul; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Madhu Balakrishnan and Usha Uthup. The chemistry between Mammootty and Usha Uthup is the highlight of this film and this song captures their relationship beautifully.

4. "Kaattaadi" - Film: "Classmates"; Music: Alex Paul; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Vidhu Prathap, Reju Joseph, Ramesh Babu and Cicily. The composer-lyricist duo had to face stiff resistance from the young star cast for this unconventional campus song but they have proved their point with its popularity.

5. "Nerane" - Film: "Pothen Vava"; Music: Alex Paul; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Madhu Balakrishnan, Afsal and Manjari. Alex Paul uses a mixture of styles for this song.
