'Maayavi' overtakes 'Inspector Garud' at box office

Kochi, Feb 22 (IANS) Mammootty starrer "Maayavi" gets to the top, toppling "Inspector Garud". Suresh Gopi's "Detective" is the only new entry this fortnight.

The top five Malayalam films are:

1. "Maayavi" - Mammootty comes up with yet another entertainer under the directorial baton of Shafi, proving that he can make both 'the masses and the classes' happy.

2. "Inspector Garud" - A typical Dileep-brand film. His friend Johny Antony has directed it.

3. "Detective" - Suresh Gopi, who plays a cop and a politician, is at home in both the roles. Directed by newcomer Jithu Joseph, the thriller is expected to do well in the coming days.

4. "Kaiyoppu" - A small film directed by Ranjith starring Mammootty as a struggling writer has chugged on thanks to word-of-mouth publicity and media support.

5. "Baba Kalyani" - Mohanlal's tale of a cop, directed by Shaji Kailas, is still on the list despite moving to smaller centres.
