'4 Friends' music repeats magic of original - Tamil Music Count down
Aug 1, 2004 IANS Aug 1Chennai, Aug 1 (IANS): Composer Jassie Gift is making music with the album of "4 Friends", the Tamil remake of a Malayalam film. The album is on top of the Tamil music charts:
1) "4 Friends": As he mesmerised Keralites with his exceptionally remarkable music in Malayalam film "4 The People", Jassie Gift seems to have done the same in Tamil too.
The songs from "4 Friends", the Tamil remake of "4 The People", is heard all the time on Tamil FM channels these days. The success in Tamil is all the more sweet for Jassie Gift for he has sung the songs himself.
Among all the songs, "Lajjavathiye" caused mass hysteria in Kerala. In Tamil also, "Lajjavathiye" is the most successful, followed by "Annakkili" and "Balle balle".
2) "7-G Rainbow Colony": The success of "7-G Rainbow Colony" makes Yuvan Shankar Raja, the youngest son of music maestro Ilayaraja, one of the most promising young composers.
Yuvan's success is in his ability to combine folk elements, the hallmark of his father, with fast numbers that youngsters of today demand. He was daring enough to compose a haunting instrumental track in the album. The album is sure to remain on the top for some more time.
3) "New": The release of the film "New" and its astounding success at the box office have given a fresh lease of life to the A.R. Rahman album.
Though many of the songs in the album reminded listeners of his earlier successful album, "Boys", his fans are not complaining. The youngsters seem to be enjoying all the fast numbers.
4) "Manmadan": It is difficult to believe that the same Yuvan Shankar Raja, who has done such wonderful work in "7-G Rainbow Colony", has composed the music of "Manmadan".
There is nothing great about Manmadan except that Anoushka of the Indian pop band, Viva, has sung a song in the film. But that only has news value.
Today the music album of a film has to succeed for the film to succeed. No wonder the audio releases have become such huge affairs in Chennai.
5) "Gilli": Many new films and new albums have come and gone but nothing has affected the magic of "Appadi podu". The album has become successful mainly because of that one song in this film. It has catapulted Vidyasagar to the top slot as a composer who knows the pulse of the masses.
