After Rajni, it's Kamal's turn
Apr 14, 2004 IANSRajnikanth is not the only Tamil film star whose fans are getting embroiled in electoral politics. Kamal Haasan's fans have also generated heat ahead of the poll campaign in Tamil Nadu.
If it is S. Ramadoss of the PMK that Rajni's flock is up in arms against, Kamal's following is spoiling for a fight with the Puthiya Thamizhagam (PT), a Dalit party, and its founder-president K. Krishnasamy.
While there has been no love lost between Rajni's fans and Ramadoss after the latter's indictment of their idol as a bad influence on the Tamil youth, Krishnasamy had provoked the Kamal club by the campaign against the actor-producer's film "Veerumandi" even as it was being shot.
Kamal, in fact, had to drop the original title of the film - "Sandiyar" - after PT called it a glorification of caste violence.
And while Rajni is siding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Kamal has clearly ruled out the possibility of any role in politics.
This, however, has not stopped the Kamal fans' association in Salem district from proclaiming their resolve to campaign against Krishnasamy in the Tenkasi Lok Sabha constituency from where the latter is contesting.
