Chennai, Nov 14 (IANS) Actor Ajith's "Varalaaru", earlier named "Godfather", is the clear winner at the box office. It is on its way to becoming a super hit despite rain playing spoilsport.

The top five Tamil films are:

1. "Varalaaru" - Director: K.S. Ravi Kumar - Kumar gave Ajith a double role and a big hit in "Villain". Now with "Varalaaru", he has gifted Ajith three roles and a new lease of life.

2. "E" - Director: Jananathan - Directed by Jananathan, the National Award winning director of "Iyarkai", this film was the dark horse this Diwali. Actor Jeeva, a comparatively new entrant and not a big hero, had to compete with big names. The success of "E" shows that marketing is as essential as making a good product.

3. "Vallavan" - Director: Silambarsan - The film had only hype but no substance. No wonder it didn't do well at the box office.

4. "Vettayadu Vilayadu" - Director: Gowtham Menon - Despite a flood of Diwali releases, this film remains among the top five.

5. "Vattaram" - Director: Saran - The director and his team went around publicising the film. However, women have stayed away from this violent flick even though Arya, who is plays the main lead, is quite the heartthrob.
