London, Dec 14 (IANS): Roshni Campaneri, a British Indian of Leicester, is literally walking on the clouds - she has been offered a leading role in a Tamil film after she was spotted by talent scouts.

The star in the making was spotted at an audition by Leicester's Filmpur project, which helps filmmakers find actors and locations in the city.

Roshni said: "When I got the phone call to say I had got the part I just screamed with the excitement.

"I went to sign up for the Filmpur initiative and was asked to come back the next day to meet a Tamil film crew who were looking for the lead actress.

"I had to wait for more than a month before I heard from them."

The crew said Roshni, a student at Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College, was chosen for her style and grace. Filming begins in Chennai next week and Roshni is flying out with her mother, Bhanu.

While Roshni, from Humberstone, doesn't yet know the exact plot of the love story, she says she will mime her words and they will be dubbed into Tamil. She said she was not frightened by the love scenes.

She said: "It will not be anything explicit, they will all be very traditional."

Her mother said: "There has been a lot to organise in the last few days. I was very surprised at the news but I am also very proud of her".

Roshni told the media: "I know the film is a really great opportunity, but my studies are also important to me."

One of her friends, Amandeep Kaur, 17, said: "Ever since I've known Roshni, she has always been the one to volunteer to act or dance in school shows and community events."

Kate McCauley, her school drama teacher, said Roshni had performed in a play by Alan Ayckbourn and an improvised production.

She said: "She's got good comic timing and can do serious parts too."

Roshni also hones her Bollywood dance moves at Belgrave's Desi Masti dance academy.
