Chennai, Sep 28 (IANS): "Chandramukhi" -- and not "Jaggubai" -- could be Rajnikanth's comeback film after the flop "Baba".

"Chandramukhi" by Sivaji Productions, the company run by the legendary Sivaji Ganesan's family, may bring Rajni back to the Tamil screen.

The film is being launched this year on the occasion of the 50th year of the company. Sivaji's actor son Prabhu will also play a major role in the production of the golden-jubilee year.

The film will be directed by veteran director P. Vasu, Rajni was reportedly impressed by the Vasu-directed Kannada film "Aaaptha Mithra", now running to packed halls in Karnataka.

This, besides his close relations with the Sivaji clan, is said to be behind his willingness to star in the film. The invitation was personally extended by Ram Kumar, another son of Sivaji.

The entire cast of the film, including the heroine, is to be finalised by November. The film is to be released April 14, the Tamil New Year day.

As for "Jaggubhai", suspense continues about its production schedule.

According to some sources in the industry, the anti-Rajni campaign by the PMK has given the producers cold feet.

Other sources, however, point to meticulous preparations for the ambitious project as the cause for delay.
