Director-actor Cheran, whose "Autograph" acclaimed the national award as well as Filmfare awards, is working on his next film "Thavami Thavamerunthu". Though he says he is a director first, he himself played the lead role in "Autograph" and is acting in his new film also. "Thavami Thavamerunthu" is due for release this September. The national awards announced on earlier this month, "Autograph" shared the national award in the category of "Most Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment" with Yash Chopra's "Veer-Zaara". The award was given for the 'simple story and straightforward narration'. Cheran made his debut as an actor in the film which portrays the character of the hero (Cheran) and the women who were part of his life.

Before winning the national award, "Autograph'' won four Film Fare Awards. Cheran told a national newspaper that though he is pleased with the Filmfare awards, the national awards are special and he is very proud. "Autograph" was screened at the Montreal and Goa film festivals and "the response was surprisingly pleasant", Cheran added. His new film is eagerly awaited. "Let us just say that it's as closely guarded as the story of Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince," he added.
