Deepika Padukone bags coveted lead role in 'Kochadaiyaan'

Feb 8, 2012 PGV

It is official. Deepika Padukone has bagged the coveted role opposite superstar Rajinikanth in the much-hyped 'Kochadaiyaan'. Director Soundarya Aswin Rajinikanth announced this.

Deepika pipped Katrina Kaif at the post ending the speculation that Kat was in contest for the role against many leading Bollywood glam girls.

But the version put out by sources close to Soundarya is that her team had talks with Katrina but despite her best efforts she could not adjust her dates to accommodate 'Kochadaiyaan'. According to a source quoted by a newspaper report, Katrina was sincerely trying to find time for the seven-day call-sheet, but eventually could not manage it. Her dates for 2012 are clearly divided between Salman Khan's 'Ek Tha Tiger' and

Director Yash Chopra's Shah Rukh Khan-starrer. Besides commercial endorsements and appearances, she is committed to shooting for 'Dhoom-3' with Aamir Khan.

Another story is that the superstar himself is keen to have Deepika Padukone play opposite him in 'Kochadaiyaan'as she was already seen with him romancing on sets for 'Rana' which has to be postponed indefinitely after the superstar was taken ill in 2011.

Bangalore beau Dippy, confirming Soundarya's announcement, said she is delighted to work with the legend. It is truly an honour to play heroine to him, she added.

'Kochadaiyaan' is being touted as India's first film to be made using the motion picture capture technology. The casting is nearly over. Sarath Kumar, Jackie Shroff, Shobana, Aadhi and Rukmini Vijayakumar have been roped in for important roles.

A.R. Rahman scores the music. Director K.S. Ravikumar overseas the project..
