'Flexibility is the key', reveals Santhanam

It should come as no surprise that there is a buzz around 'Oru Kal Oru Kannadi' (OKOK) for it marks the debut of Udhayanidhi Stalin as a hero. But what lends this buzz an extra zing is the fact that it will also see the return of the hit combo of comedian Santhanam and director Rajesh, who had us in splits in 'Siva Manasula Sakthi' (SMS) and 'Boss Engira Baskaran' (BEB).

"If I had to shoot for my part in SMS for 20 days, it was 40 days for BEB and now, it will be almost 50 days for OKOK. That should indicate how seriously we are taking this project," starts off Santhanam. The actor says that he discussed his characters at length with Rajesh even before they began the photo shoots. He also believes that a comedian should adapt to the style of the actor with whom he shares screen space. "Charlie Chaplin had once remarked that a comedian should be like liquid. So, I always modify my style a little to suit theirs. This flexibility is the reason why you will find me sharing a great chemistry with the heroes I have worked with," he explains.

The actor is also part of other high-profile films including Vijay's 'Velayudham', 'Deiva Thirumagan' with Vikram, Simbu's 'Vaanam', Bharath's 'Yuvan Yuvathi', Jiiva's 'Vandhaan Vendraan' and an untitled film with Karthi. But he says he doesn't believe working on so many projects at a time might lead to over-exposure. "That mostly happens only when you do comedy as a separate track, because you'll be playing yourself again and again. But when you do comedy scenes as a character that is part of the film's plot, there is less chance of repeating yourself. Every role will have a different flavor. Also, this demands a lot of homework. When you play a barber or a panipuriwallah, you observe people who are in those professions and try to derive the humor from those observations", he signs off.
