Foundation for Sivaji Ganesan memorial laid

Chennai, April 22 (IANS): Leading actors, directors and producers from the south Indian film industry Friday attended a ceremony to lay the foundation stone of a memorial for thespian Sivaji Ganesan, who passed away last month.


The ceremony was organised by South Indian Film Artistes Association (SIFAA) here.


SIFAA president and actor Vijaykant thanked the Tamil Nadu government for providing land in the posh Adyar area of the city for the memorial that will cost around Rs.10 million.


The memorial would also have a park where CDs of films featuring Sivaji Ganesan would be on display, a SIFAA official said.


Among those who attended the ceremony were Kamal Haasan, Sarath Kumar, Napolean, Manorama, S.S. Chandran and Sivaji Ganesan's sons Prabhu and Ramkumar.
