Veteran filmmaker K. Balachander is back to the big screen after making his mark on the small screen too. He has produced many TV serials under the banner 'Minbimbamgal'. All these serials are family-oriented dramas, which became instant hits with the audience. He is turning his attention to the big screen again, this time to direct a film produced by his 'sishya' Prakashraj who was introduced by him through the film 'Duet". Prakashraj, who has made his name as a consummate actor, is now actor-turned producer who has his own film company "Duet Movies".

His latest venture titled 'Ilamaikku Poi Azhagu' (short name "Poi" (LIE)) is said to be a big budget film, lavishly made in Sri Lanka. The theme is based on youth and romance. The intention of Prakashraj in choosing of his master, Balachander, to direct "POI" is clear -- he wants his new film to be a romantic classic with a difference bearing the stamp of his master Balachander.

In Prakashraj's view, Balachander is the most suitable person to handle a theme like this. Balachander had given many such movies as 'Maro Charitra" starring Sarita and Kamal Haasan in the 70s. Those old movies of Balachander are even today talked about and praised.

"Poi" portrays love and what it means for today's youths reflecting the contemporary world of romance. The film's lead pair is played by a set of new faces. With P.V. Viswanath handling the camera, Vidyasagar is the music director. Art - Kabusiril, Editing - M. Kasiviswanathan. Singer Dr. Krithaya is being introduced in this film.
