Lalgudi gives music for film on a 'devadasi'

Chennai, Sep 13 (IANS) Renowned violinist Lalgudi Jayaraman has composed a full-fledged traditional piece "Mallari", a temple form of music, for a new Tamil movie on temple dancers, known as 'devadasis'.



The film "Srirangam, Dance of Love", depicts the story of a 'devadasi', who lived in the 1920s. It has been directed by debutant Sharada Ramanathan.


The music album has 14 songs, including an instrumental score titled 'Three Seasons'. Singers Jayashree, Sowmya and O.S. Arun have lent voices to the album. The music has been created in tune with the period of the story.


In the film, Bharatnatyam exponent Aditi Rao plays the lead role. It also casts popular Malayalam and Tamil actor Manoj K Jayan in an important role.
