Parthiban boycotts 'Vallamai Tharayo' function

Apr 12, 2008 PVS

Parthiban, who plays the lead role in "Vallamai Tharayo", boycotted the film's audio/CD release function held in Chennai on April 10 night.

It was announced at the function that Parthiban was out of station and could not attend the function. Denying this, Parthiban said he was very much in Chennai and stayed away from the function as he had been slighted by Director Madhumitha by not including his name in the invitation card. Even during the shooting, he was not happy with the treatment meted out to him, he told mediapersons.

The film has been produced by Madhumitha's father, Trishakthi Sundarraman, a Tamilian living abroad, under the banner of Giriguja Film International.

Chaya Singh of Bangalore pairs with Parthiban.

Coming out openly against Madhumitha, Parthiban said he had agreed to act in this film only after she was introduced to him as having worked as an assistant to director Gautham Menon. Subsequently he came to know that she had never worked under Gautham Menon. Still he did not want to drop out because he had given his commitment and moreover it was the maiden venture of a woman director He not merely acted in the film; he had written the screenplay and dialogue staying at a star hotel in Vadapalani. But it was publicized that the story, screenplay and dialogue were by Madhumitha, denying him the credit.

During the shooting, though he and others in the unit found that she had no experience in directing films, he extended full co-operation to her and worked beyond his calling to ensure successful completion of the film. In the last stages, he was not given the same importance as at the beginning. He was terribly upset by the omission of even his name in the invitation for the audio release function, despite the fact that he donned the lead character in the film. Adding insult to injury, it was announced at the function that he was out of station, he said.

Reacting to Parthiban's allegations, Madhumitha said he had been given due respect and importance from the beginning. The invitation had not carried the names of any artistes featured in the film, she added.

At the function Music director Bharadwaj released the audio cassette and playback singer P.B. Srinivas received it. Director K.S. Ravikumar released the CD and Mridangam maestro Vikku Vinayakam received it. Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan, Theatre Owners Association president Abhirami Ramanathan and director Visu spoke. Actors Ravichandran, Vijayakumar, Karunas and Srikanth, actresses Chaya Singh, Manjula, Sathyapriya, Kuyili, Vennirai Aadai Nirmala, M.N. Rajam, Director Charan, "Seventh Channel" Manickam Narayanan were among those who attended the function.

It was at the pooja for the launch of this film last year that Kushboo sat cross-legged with the slippers on pointing to the image of Goddess Mupperumdevi placed on dais. This kicked up a controversy with the actress drawing flak from Hindu organizations.
