The shooting of "Ammuvagiya Naan" with actor-director Parthiban and new face Bharathy, a Tamil girl from Coimbatore, playing the lead, is fast progressing. The story is off the beaten track as can be expected of Parthiban. It is about a girl who wants to become a commercial sex worker.

According to Director Padma Magan, normally, in films, girls are shown as being pushed into the flesh trade but in "Ammu..." the heroine (Bharathy) enters it by choice. This is an unusual theme. For the pair, what starts as a passing infatuation develops into true love.

Bharathy is acclaimed in the media for her bold decision to play a commercial sex worker in her very first film.

When approached, Bharathy was hesitant and it took a week for the director to persuade her to accept the role. According to him, 10 heroines from Bollywood to Kollywood, from Simran to Sandhya, declined it fearing that their image would be tarnished.

Young and spirited Bharathy says she has taken a calculated risk and accepted the role as she wanted to make her entry into films with a bang. She is willing to experiment with different subjects from the start.

Director Padma Magan has given Parthiban a new look in "Ammu..." He plays a writer dressed in cargos and tees.Padma Magan has earlier directed "Pallavan" under the banner of Parkar Brothers.

The shooting has been going on in Gingee and Pondicherry regions. The film is expected to be ready by February.
