'Paruthiveeran' runs into legal trouble

Chennai, March 14 (IANS) The Kurava tribal community in Tamil Nadu has raised its voice against the film "Paruthiveeran", which portrays them as an anti-social and criminal group, and have filed a petition in court.

The Madras High Court has been approached with the plea for a stay on the screening of the recently released film, now running to packed houses.

The stay has been sought on the ground that the film, with Karthi in the main role, has scenes derogatory to the Kurava community and can create animosity between them and the Thevar community.

The court, which has heard initial arguments from both the sides, has ordered the film's producer Gnanavel Raja and director Ameer, among others, to reply by March 23 to the notices issued to them.
