Malayalam box-office hit "Spadikam" in which Thilakan and Mohanlal acted as father and son is being remade in Tamil and it is named as "Veerappu". In the Tamil version Prakashraj plays the father of Sundar C.

Contradictions between a father and son are the quintessence of the story of "Veerappu".

For instance, parents have their own dreams about their children's bringing-up and their future but as they grow up the children deviate from the course charted out by their parents and go their own way.

This is the second film in which Sundar C plays the role of hero, the first being "Thalainagaram' which was a runway success. Playing opposite him is Gopika.

The others in the cast include Vivek, Santhanam, Vichu, Bhava Lakshmanan, Sumithra and Thejasri.

The film is directed by Badri, who has worked as an assistant to Sundar C, who is also a director. D. Imman scores the music and the cinematographer is K.S. Selvaraj.

The producers are Krishnamurthy Vijayakumar and Sujatha Vijayakumar, who are the owners of "Kalpana House" in Chennai where more than 1000 films were shot. The couple has produced many TV serials under the banner of Home Media. "Veerappu" is their first film.

The shooting commenced at Tiruneveli and then continued at Courtallam, Papanasam, Tenkasi, Ambasamudaram, and some locales in Kerala. Song sequences are planned to be shot in New Zealand and Australia.
