Rahman changes tune

"Et tu, A.R. Rahman?" So might ask admirers of the innovative music director, especially those who don't go into raptures over remixes.

It is true, however, that he is re-setting the tune for an old Tamil film song. The popular number in question is "Thottaal poo malarum...", sung by the once top playback pair T.M. Soundararajan and P. Susheela, for "Padagotti", starring MGR (M.G.Ramachandran) and Saroja Devi.

S.J. Surya, director of "New", for which Rahman is scoring music, however, insists that the tune will be entirely new. He also admits that it was quite a job to persuade Rahman to set another tune for the old song. What helped was the fact that "Thottaal..." was a favourite of Rahman's.
