Sarath Kumar quits post
Sep 7, 2007 PVSActor Sarath Kumar has resigned his post as president of the South India Film Artistes Association, general secretary R. Radha Ravi has announced. Sarath Kumar's resignation follows the launching of his political party.
He emulated Vijayakanth who also resigned as president of the South India Film Artistes Association after starting his political party. Sarath Kumar was elected unopposed to succeed Vijayakanth.
Sarath Kumar continues to act in films even after starting his own political party. In a letter to the Association on Sept. 6, he said he decided to quit the post of president of the association as he heads a political party now and requested that he be relieved of the post.
According to Radha Ravi, an urgent meeting of the executive committee of the association has been convened for Sept 9 to consider the matter. Sarath Kumar is busy working on the film titled "Nam Nadu", which according to him, will project the kind of politics the country needs most now. One of the songs from MGR's film of the same title, "Vangaiyya Vadiyarayya", is being remixed for the Sarath Kumar-starrer.
The actor is also acting in six other films. He will take a decision soon on the future of his fans associations now that he is fully involved in political activities.
Will his party have a tie-up with Vijayakanth's party? Sarath Kumar says this is not the time to discuss it. He said Rajinikanth has conveyed his best wishes.
