Sarath Kumar to contest Nadigar Sangam elections
Jul 7, 2006 P.V.Sathish KumarActor Sarath Kumar will contest for the post of president of the South India Actors Association (SIAA) (Nadigar Sangam). This was confirmed on July 6 by his spokesperson. Sarath Kumar has gone to the US and will return in time to file his nomination papers.
Sarath Kumar's decision comes in the wake of opposition from actors like Nasser to incumbent president 'Captain" Vijayakanth, who now heads a political party and was elected to the Tamil Nadu Assembly in the last May elections, seeking re-election for the post.
Nasser has taken the stand that actors-turned politicians (meaning Vijayakanth and Sarath Kumar) would not help develop the Nadigar Sangam. Would Nasser himself contest against Sarath Kumar and his team' Nasser told media persons in Mumbai the other day that he would think about it on returning to Chennai.
Sarath Kumar has chosen his team and it comprises Radha Ravi (secretary), actor Vijayakumar and Chandrashekar (vice-presidents) and K.N. Kalai (treasurer).Sarath Kumar has also constituted a 24-member executive committee which includes Sathyaraj, Karthik, Prabhu, Murali, Arjun, actresses Manorama, Vindiya and Pasi Sathya.
