Tamil film 'Thirupachi' asked to cut portions on insecticide
Feb 11, 2005 IANS Feb 11Chennai, Feb 11 (IANS): Can Hit - an insect killing spray - prove fatal for humans too? At least that's what Tamil film "Tiruppachi" shows.
The scene was not liked by the Mumbai-based Godrej Sara Lee Ltd, the manufacturers of the insecticide that filed a civil suit in the Madras High Court seeking removal of the "offensive" portions.
The firm contended that the adverse publicity was severely affecting sales and had raised doubts in the minds of the public about the product.
The Madras High Court, which heard the plea Thursday, issued a notice to film producer R.B. Choudhary to remove the objectionable portions from the film. Justice R. Balasubramanian, who gave the interim orders, posted the case for next hearing Feb 21.
"Tiruppachi", starring Vijay and Trisha, was released last month during Pongal festival. Vijay is shown as getting rid of the villain by spraying the insecticide into his mouth.
