Tamil stars plan charity night
Jul 14, 2004 IANS Jul 14A mega star night is being organised by the South Indian Cine Artistes' Association in Chennai to celebrate the golden jubilee of the body.
The function is likely to take place in December, the general council of the association has announced.
Association president and veteran actor Vijaykanth said the association was considering Dec 11 - the birth anniversary of Tamil poet Subramania Bharati - as a possible date for the star-studded show.
Tamil Nadu had a ban on film stars participating in stage shows. But recently this ban was lifted.
The proceeds of the event will be used for a new building for the association. As many as 5,000 members of the association have also decided to contribute Rs.200 each into the building fund.
Vijaykanth said a part of the proceeds would be given to old artistes as pension and go to support local artistes among poorer communities.
