'Vettayadu...' stays way ahead in Tamil film race

Chennai, Oct 4 (IANS) More than Kamal Haasan's, "Vettayadu Vilayadu" is the triumph of director Gowtham Menon. It is amazing that the film continues to remain at the top several weeks after its release.

The top five Tamil films are:

1. "Vettayadu Vilaiyadu" - Director: Gowtham Menon. The biggest success of 2006 so far, the film has become a landmark in Tamil cinema.

2. "Perarasu" - Director: Udhayan. It took a lot of efforts on the part of many to release Vijaykanth-starrer "Perarasu". Luckily, when it hit the theatres, everybody associated with it could heave a sigh of relief. The film is a huge success.

3. "Em Magan" - Director: Thirumagan. The slow success of "Em Magan", which was initially titled "Emdan Magan", shows that nothing can stop a good film that has a good story. The film is like a breath of fresh air.

4. "Chillunu Oru Kathal" - Director: Krishna. One of the biggest disappointments of this year, it opened with much hype but ended in a whimper.

5. "Thimiru" - Director: Tarun Gopi. The film is Vishal's third success in a row. Way to go for this new action hero.
