'Veyil' selected for Cannes festival

"Veyil" starring Bharat and Pasupathy, directed by Vasantha Balan and produced by Shankar, have been selected to represent Indian cinema at the Cannes Film Festival this year.


It will be screened in the 'Cinema of the World" section on May 19. The film was chosen by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Government of India, and sent for selection to Cannes, according to director Vasantha Balan, who worked as an assistant to director Shankar. Bala will be present at Cannes when "Veyil" is screened


Director Shankar, in a statement, said that the movie had all the ingredients of a world classic. "Veyil" has also been sent for selection for the Shanghai film festival.


The gist of the story is elder brother Murugesan (Pasupathy) runs away from home in unfortunate circumstances incurring the wrath of his father and ekes out his livelihood assisting a film projectionist. His ill-fated romance develops alongside the success of his brother (Bharat) in advertising business. Murugesan's romance comes to a tragic end as also his life. Bhavana and Shreya Reddy are part of the cast.
