Chennai, June 27 (IANS) The recently released trailer of upcoming Tamil-English bilingual "Ramanujan", about mathematics genius Srinivasa Ramanujan, has inspired and touched the hearts of audiences who are now eagerly looking forward to the film.

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Gnana Rajasekaran, "Ramanujan" is slated to release July 11.

The film's trailer briefly encapsulates scenes from the life of the genius from his early days in Kumbakonam to Cambridge University, London.

"We've all heard about the Ramanujan in schools and colleges, but never have we bothered to know what made him the real genius. It will be really inspiring to know about someone we have been studying for many years now," B. Gopal, a B.Sc. mathematics student of Madras University, told IANS.

"Since Ramanujan was a Tamilian, it makes even more sense to make the film in Tamil. I'm eagerly looking forward to the film. I'm a mathematics student and I'll finally get to see the real story behind a legendary maths wizard," he added.

The trailer, released June 19, has generated over 90,000 views on YouTube so far and still counting.

One of the comments on the trailer reads: "What a trailer! I hope this masterpiece comes in all major Indian languages, including English."

For 54-year-old bank employee M. Ramakrishnan, the film's trailer has restored his faith in Tamil cinema.

"I've stopped going to the cinema theatre because we (Tamil industry) are only making commercial films. So, when something like 'Ramanujan' is coming our way, we should embrace it. I know I will for sure," he said.

He, however, says he's little skeptical too about the biopic.

"I just hope the film doesn't turn out to be a commercial version of Ramanujan's life. We recently saw how commercial Milkha Singh's story was turned into. I think such changes kill the purpose of a biopic," he added.

Meanwhile, the makers are ecstatic with the response to the film's trailer.

We are very glad to see the audiences' positive reception of the trailer. From the response we've gotten, we believe this is the right time for such a film - a biopic spanning across two cultures, two continents, about a great, real Indian hero," read a statement from the film's production house Camphor Cinema.

Our tag line 'Come Celebrate the Genius' has hit the right chords with youngsters and older audiences, the statement reads.

Debutant Abhinay Vaddi plays Ramanujan in the biopic, while actors Bhama, Nizhagal Ravi, Suhasini Maniratnam, Manobala, Y.Gee Mahendran, Sarath Babu and Abbas will be seen in important roles.
